Prague is justifiably proud of its architectural heritage. The wonderfully eclectic combination of architectural styles span more than a thousand years.
Wherever we choose to start our tour of this magnificent city it won’t be long before the streets of Old Town and New Town begin to unveil to you some of the best preserved examples of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance buildings in Europe. You will see almost two centuries of Baroque architecture seamlessly joined by Rococo then Classicism and on to an age of new ideas harking back to times gone by resulting in Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance styles which dominated the skyline in the 19th century. A new century brought with it new ideas and new architectural styles; the magnificent Municipal House is a perfect example of what we know as Art Nouveau. Czech Cubism made its contribution with the House at the Black Madonna. Dancing House gives us an insight into the synthesis of its historical precedents; Baroque, Art Nouveau and even suggestions of Czech Cubism, intended to epitomize both architectural and political renewal of the Golden City of Spires.
