Český Krumlov is situated on the banks of the meandering Vltava River in South Bohemia; the town was built around a 13th-century castle with Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements. It is an outstanding example of a small central European medieval town whose architectural heritage has remained intact thanks to its peaceful evolution over more than five centuries. Town is dominated by a Chateau towering above a picturesque complex of renaissance burger houses. Český Krumlov is included on UNESCO World Heritage Site List.
We recommend not leaving from your hotel later than 9am as the Český Krumlov Tour takes 9 to 10 hours. On our way to Český Krumlov a coffee break in České Budějovice, 13th century town nearby, is a suggested option.
Český Krumlov walk starts at the Chateau and its 5 courtyards. Joining a Chateau Interior tour (admission is at additional charge) you get the opportunity to go through the rooms inhibited by the lords of the castle in bygone days and find out how they dined, slept, studied, rested and amused themselves. Renaissance decorated rooms and halls, a unique Baroque theatre and the Golden Coach deserve mentioning as they certainly will draw your attention. Before leaving the Chateau climbing the steps of the Castle Tower will reward you with a breathtaking view of Český Krumlov from above. Strolling down the castle hill to the historical centre probably your only desire will be your camera to take away all the picturesque Renaissance townhouses, Gothic churches, bridges and riverside restaurants. In matter of fact all the streets eventually lead you to Concord Town Square.
After a lunch (not included in the price, but a restaurant will be suggested) you will have some time to explore Český Krumlov by your own. The crooked town streets will tempt you for sure to discover what is next around the corner – a café or a medieval inn, a craft shop or an art gallery…
We get back to Prague before dinner.
